唐昭宗
“Able, and thirty years too late”
By the time he took the throne the Huang Chao rebellion had gutted the empire and the capital changed hands whenever a warlord wanted it. Zhaozong was intelligent and tried repeatedly to build a court army of his own; each attempt failed. He was moved to Luoyang by Zhu Wen in 904 and murdered there on his orders.
In 903 Zhu Wen had the palace eunuchs killed — several hundred of them — which ended the eunuch domination of the Tang court by ending the court. Three years after Zhaozong's death Zhu Wen took the abdication of his young son and declared the Later Liang.
Empress He had been with him through the years of being marched between warlords' camps. She was killed in 905, the year after her husband, and Xiang Li's silk of her is the last empress of the Tang.
