His Story
One of two pretty boys at the clan school known only by nicknames — he is 玉爱, “Darling”, his companion 香怜, “Sweetie”. Their attachment to Qin Zhong and Baoyu is what Jin Rong mocks in Chapter 9, and the mockery becomes the schoolroom riot. Yu’ai neither starts the fight nor wins it; he is swept through it. The novel tells nothing else of him.
In Xiang Li's Hands
The oddest sheet here. He kneels in profile, hair loose to the waist, green tunic over a grey robe scattered with red leaves. Behind him a lion-mask face fills the sky on yellow rays; three folk toys — tiger, rooster, pouch — sit on bare paper at his feet.

Inscribed 玉爱, the nickname alone, which is the only name the novel ever gives him.
