Illiterate on his accession at fifteen and happiest in his workshop, he handed the government to Wei Zhongxian, who built temples to himself across the country and destroyed the Donglin reformers. Manchu armies took most of Liaodong during these seven years.
The furniture he made was reportedly excellent. Nothing else about the reign was.
Empress Zhang stood up to Wei Zhongxian directly, survived it, and was the one who ensured the throne passed to the emperor's brother.
