Xiaoque
Xiaoque 小鹊 — Urraca Pequeña. Criada pequeña de la tía Zhao.
小鹊
“Little Magpie”
Her Story
Aunt Zhao’s little maid. Chapter 73 opens with her: she slips out of her mistress’s room at night, crosses to Green Delights, and tells Baoyu that his father has been talking about him — then goes, leaving him up till dawn with his books in terror of being tested on them. A magpie is a bringer of news. She brings one piece and is not heard from again.
In Xiang Li's Hands
Head bowed, blue-grey jacket flecked yellow, both wide sleeves hanging empty, a red garment bunched against her chest, long pink skirt. Black wedges lie at her feet. To her right, on bare paper, a shape in grey ink alone reads as more of the same cloth, drawn but never coloured.
The Calligraphy
小鹊 — the diminutive 小 kept, upper right: not a name so much as what a household calls a child across a courtyard.
