Wang Mama
Wang Mama 王嬷嬷 — Nannie Wang. Enfermera de Daiyu, traída desde Yangzhou con ella en el Capítulo 3.
王嬷嬷
“Nannie Wang”
Her Story
Daiyu’s nurse, brought up from Yangzhou with her in Chapter 3. Grandmother Jia looks at what the child has arrived with — one nurse too old, one maid too young — decides neither will serve, and gives Daiyu her own maid Yingge instead. Wang Mama has no line and no exit. She is there to measure how little Daiyu brought with her.
In Xiang Li's Hands
She kneels in a coral jacket dotted with blue over a heavy black skirt, holding a bundle of lit incense in both hands, the smoke drawn as three thin threads. She is smiling. Pale green cloud-scrolls fill the ground edge to edge. Not a servant waiting — a woman praying.
The Calligraphy
The inscription 王嬷嬷 gives surname plus the nurse’s title, the same form as Baoyu’s and Jia Lian’s nurses receive; no personal name is recorded anywhere.
Connections
- Lin Daiyu 林黛玉 — the child she nursed and travelled north with.
- Xueyan 雪雁 — the young maid who came from Yangzhou with them.
- Grandmother Jia 贾母 — judges the pair insufficient and supplies Yingge in their place.
