“Deposed on a rumour about who fathered his children”
Huan Wen, needing a demonstration of authority after a failed northern campaign, had the emperor deposed in 371 on the claim that he was impotent and his sons were another man's. It is the only such deposition in Chinese history. He lived out fifteen years as a duke, careful to look harmless.
The accusation was almost certainly manufactured, and it worked precisely because nobody could disprove it.
His empress was Yu Daolian, honored after her death as Empress Xiao.
