The Jingtai Emperor — Ming Daizong

景泰帝 · 明代宗

“Saved Beijing, and was erased for it”

Raised to the throne in the emergency after Tumu, he backed Yu Qian's defense of the capital and the Mongols were turned away. He then refused to give the throne back to his returned brother, deposed his own empress and his nephew as heir, and was removed in the coup of 1457. He died within weeks, and was denied an imperial tomb.

Yu Qian, who had saved the city, was executed by the restored emperor. The Ming spent the next century arguing about it.

Empress Wang, deposed for objecting to the change of heir, shares a silk with Empress Hang, who replaced her.
