Had he lived, the balance between throne and clans in the south might have gone differently; as it was, the regency went to his wife's family and the pattern reasserted itself.

His empress was Yu Wenjun, who became dowager at twenty-eight and whose brother ran the state until his own policies provoked the Su Jun rebellion.
