“Had his own brother poisoned four days after handing him the throne”
He won the succession war of 1328, invited his elder brother back from Central Asia to take the throne, met him on the steppe, and had him dead within four days. He then reigned for four years as a patron of scholarship, founding the Pavilion of the Star of Literature and commissioning the great institutional compendium of the dynasty.
He spent his last years in remorse and left the throne to his murdered brother's sons, which is how the dynasty's last emperor got it.
His empress Budashiri became dowager and ran the court for the next several years.
