Kublai's grandson, chosen over his elder brother, who ended the foreign campaigns and reached a settlement with the western khanates that formally recognized him as senior. At home he spent heavily, and the treasury his grandfather had filled started to empty.
It is the last stable reign of the dynasty; the thirty-nine years between his death and the last emperor's accession saw eight rulers.
His empress Bulugan governed in his final illness and tried to choose his successor; she and Shirindari share a silk.
