“The Idiot Uncle”
His Story
Lady Xing’s younger brother. He appears in Chapter 75, at the Ning-guo house, in the middle of a night of gambling and drinking with Jia Zhen and the young men of the family. Drunk and losing, he complains openly that his own sister will not give him money and that the servants take him for nothing. The household calls him 傻大舅, the Idiot Uncle. He is there to show what the family’s connections look like from below.
In Xiang Li's Hands
Seen from behind — the only figure in this group turned away — pale mint robe, head twisted just enough to show a profile, a big orange flower stuck in his black cap. Hands hidden behind him. Blank paper. The flower does all the work.
The Calligraphy
The sheet is inscribed 傻大舅 rather than 邢德全 — the nickname the household uses behind his back, set on the painting in place of his name.
