Germán and Fei, as children
菲世界 “Fei's world”
Germán Ceballos and Fei Wu, painted as the children they were — from photographs taken years apart and a continent apart, and put in the same frame.
They run Feisworld together now. The painting is titled after it.
The most disarming thing Xiang has painted: two small children in imperial robes holding the earth between them, made by the mother of one of them long after both had grown up.
Go and find them
This page is about the painting. Their own work is better.
What is in this painting
Xiang Li builds a portrait out of creatures. Each one is a claim about the person sitting among them.
-
1 The title
Fei's world — the podcast's name, in the character 菲 from Fei Wu's own name 吴菲.
-
2 The globe
Held between the two of them, with four hands on it.
-
3 The dove with the olive branch
Directly over his head, carrying it.

Sitting on his shoulder, not flying.

On her head, with a blue butterfly in it.
-
6 The dragon on his robe
He wears the dragon.
-

She wears the phoenix. In the Empresses collection those two are an emperor and an empress; here they are two children in dressing-up clothes.
