Zhu Wen — Emperor Taizu of Later Liang
後梁太祖
简体 后梁太祖
“Ended the Tang, and was murdered by his own son”
A Huang Chao rebel who changed sides, became the Tang's strongest military governor, killed its last two emperors and took the throne in 907. Five years later one of his sons stabbed him in his bed. The fifty-three years of the Five Dynasties start here.
He was an effective administrator and an appalling human being, and the two facts are recorded side by side in every account of him.
Empress Zhang Hui, who died before the founding, is described as the one person whose message could turn his army around; the histories say the worst of his behavior began after her death.
