碧月
“Jade Moon”
Her Story
The other of Li Wan’s pair at Sweet-rice Village. Her one memorable moment is an errand: she crosses to Green Delights, stands watching the crowd of maids at play in Baoyu’s rooms, and remarks that their own side is quiet by comparison. It is a servant’s sentence, and it measures the whole distance between a young man’s household and a widow’s. The novel then lets her go.
In Xiang Li's Hands
The most private sheet in this group. She sits half out of her clothes — bare legs, bare feet, green shift, apricot robe slipping — with a carved mirror stand returning her profile and a brazier of red coals on the floor. No errand, no mistress: the off-duty hour.
The Calligraphy
碧月 — the given name alone, tucked into the top right corner above the drawn curtain.
