Dream of the Red Chamber / Outside physician

Hu Junrong

胡君荣

“The Wrong Prescription”

His Story

Called in Chapter 69 to You Erjie, who is pregnant and ailing in the establishment Jia Lian keeps outside the house. He reads the pulse wrongly, treats her for something else, and the medicine brings on a miscarriage — the child she loses is a formed son. Then he is gone, before anyone can hold him to it. Erjie swallows gold not long after. He is the novel’s flat demonstration that a bad doctor is simply a killer with a fee.

In Xiang Li's Hands

She paints the exit. He is caught mid-stride, gown sweeping out behind him, mouth open in his beard, one hand reaching ahead into bare paper. No consulting room, no patient, no prescription. Only a man leaving fast.

The Calligraphy

Inscribed 胡君荣 in full down the right edge beside the moving figure — the plain name, with no title to dignify it.
