騰飛 “Go!”
Seth Godin writes about marketing and about the work of making things — Purple Cow, This Is Marketing, The Practice — and has published a blog post very nearly every day for over twenty years.
Fei interviewed him in 2018. He is one of the two people she names as her teachers; the other is Krista Tippett, three doors down this page.
Xiang has never met him. She painted the word GO onto the silk in English block capitals — the only English in the whole section — and wrote 騰飛, to soar, underneath it in Chinese.
Go and find them
This page is about the painting. Their own work is better.

What is in this painting
Xiang Li builds a portrait out of creatures. Each one is a claim about the person sitting among them.
-
1 GO
In white block capitals, top right. The only English Xiang has painted onto any of these silks.
-
2 騰飛
Written under it in Chinese: to soar, to take off. The same instruction twice, in two languages.
-
3 The bird
Dark blue, perched on his shoulder, looking straight out at you while he looks away.
-
4 The yellow glasses
His own.
-
5 The red ground
Cinnabar, edge to edge, with a gold line drawn round his head where a halo would be.
