魏太武帝
“Unified the north, and was murdered by a eunuch”
The Wei's great conqueror: he destroyed the Xia, the Northern Yan and the Northern Liang, ended the Sixteen Kingdoms, and reached the Yangtze. He also carried out the first of China's four great persecutions of Buddhism, and was killed in his own palace by the eunuch Zong Ai.
The persecution was reversed within a decade, and the Yungang cave temples were carved as the apology.
The empresses of his line are on the Northern Wei silk.
